Fresh off celebrating the Brisbane Broncos’ long-awaited NRL premiership victory, star centre Gehamat Shibasaki has capped off an unforgettable week by announcing his engagement to his long-term partner.
The 26-year-old try-scoring machine shared the joyous news on social media, posting a series of photos showing the moment he proposed, accompanied by the caption: “She said yes 💍❤️”.
Fairytale Finish to a Dream Season
Shibasaki’s engagement comes just days after his standout performance in the NRL Grand Final, where he played a pivotal role in the Broncos’ triumph — their first title since 2006.
Having returned to the club in 2024 after stints with the Newcastle Knights and North Queensland Cowboys, Shibasaki enjoyed a career resurgence under coach Kevin Walters, cementing his place as one of the Broncos’ most reliable backs.
The engagement caps off a remarkable turnaround both professionally and personally for the Queensland-born star, who was once on the fringes of first grade before rediscovering his best form this season.
Teammates and Fans Celebrate the News
Broncos teammates flooded Shibasaki’s social media with congratulatory messages, with several describing it as “the perfect ending to a dream year.”
Fullback Reece Walsh wrote, “Brother, couldn’t be happier for you — what a year!”, while captain Adam Reynolds joked, “Premiership ring one week, engagement ring the next — you’re on fire, mate!”
Fans also shared their excitement, praising Shibasaki for his humility and perseverance throughout his NRL journey.
Looking Ahead
As the Broncos prepare for their premiership celebrations and end-of-season review, Shibasaki’s off-field milestone adds another layer of positivity around Red Hill.
With his career back on track and his personal life thriving, the 2025 season already looks bright for Brisbane’s newest fiancé.
“It’s been the best week of my life,” Shibasaki said. “Winning the premiership was special, but this tops it — I’m so grateful for everything that’s happened.”
