Pakistan Hockey Federation Management Restructured; Technocrats Take Key Roles

Mohiuddin Wani, who was serving as ad-hoc PHF president, assigned the responsibilities of Secretary General to Brigadier (Retired) Akmal Aziz. Captain (Retired) Farukh Atiq Khan has been appointed treasurer and will also serve as head of the Pakistan hockey delegation to Egypt for the World Cup Qualifiers.

The insiders said there is a strong possibility that the PHF may be run through a governing board in the future, similar to the Pakistan cricket Board model.

The sources explained that former Olympians failed to manage administrative affairs effectively. Factors contributing to the decline of Pakistan hockey included internal disagreements among past Olympians, personal interests, alleged corruption, politics in the sport, favoritism, and decisions made outside merit.

Based on recommendations from a government report, the federation is adopting a professional approach to restore hockey to prominence.

The experienced players will handle ground-level hockey operations, while professionals and technocrats will manage administrative and strategic matters to ensure structured growth of the sport.

The officials said this marks the first time Pakistan hockey is being run under a professional management framework aimed at strengthening governance and promoting long-term development.
