The Hangtown Motocross Classic, or just Hangtown as the fans refer to it, is the second event on the Pro Motocross Championship Schedule. Temperatures rose to the 100°F mark in Northern California for the gate drop Saturday afternoon. Conditioning and stamina will be huge factors in the racing action today.
After Week One of the outdoor season the question on everyone’s mind is can anyone defeat
250MX Moto #1
Chance Hymas(10) sped away from the starting gate to take the holeshot. Tom Vialle(16), Ryder DeFrancesco(25), and Casey Cochran(40) followed. Julien Beaumer(23) ran fourth, and Haiden Deegan(1) was fifth on the start. Seth Hammaker was the rider making early moves, running up to the third spot.
Out front, Hymas made a couple of mistakes running wide, allowing Cochran to take over the top spot.
Five minutes in Deegan was catching and passing riders quickly. Moving up to replace Hammaker in the third position. Jo Shimoda(30) also moved up to take fifth, looking to run down Hammaker.
Vialle and Ryder D. collided with both going down. The incident was more serious for Vialle as he exited the track shortly after the crash.
Deegan continued his charge, passing both Hymas and Cochran to take over the lead before the halfway point.
Just after the 15 minute mark, Shimoda was up to third and began to pressure Cochran for second.
Once into the lead, Deegan began to grow the interval between himself and Cochran. When Shimoda finally passed Cochran he trailed Deegan by seven seconds.

Over the final 10 minutes of the timed portion of the moto, the interval between the top two fluctuated up and down. However the win was never in question as Deegan managed the space between them.
The battle for the final podium spot featured Cochran, Ty Masterpool(26), Levi Kitchen(47), Hammaker, and Michael Mosiman(93). With Kitchen taking the position just ahead of Masterpool.

450MX Moto #1
Off the starting line Justin Cooper(32) grabbed the holeshot. Aaron Plessinger(7) and Eli Tomac(3) followed. The Lawrence brothers, Hunter and Jett respectively, started in the sixth and eighth positions.
However, it was Plessinger on a mission. He rode to the front and pulled Tomac with him, dropping Cooper to third. Once out front, AP put some distance between himself and ET3.

Jett Lawrence moved up to challenge Cooper for the third spot and made the pass rather easily. But Plessinger continued to pour it on out front.
Aaron posted his first Supercross Overall win earlier this year and was looking for his first Pro Motocross moto win this outdoor season. Tomac hung within striking distance and when the clock ran out he passed Plessinger on the next to last lap. The win for Eli moved him out of a three way tie with Ryan Dungey and Rick Johnson for second overall on the all-time win list behind Ricky Carmichael.
Jett Lawrence almost caught Plessinger for the second position, but could not make the pass in the final laps.
