Southampton fans, brace yourselves for yet another underwhelming transfer offer, this time received by Trabzonspor for Paul Onuachu.
The Saints are prepared to let go of a few players this summer. Even if they weren’t prepared, they’d frankly have no choice. This is just the nature of being relegated to the Championship; some players will want to leave.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Paul Onuachu is one of those players. Having already tasted good form in the Turkish top flight, the Nigerian striker has proven that he’s capable of more than the second tier of English football. When Southampton were last in the Championship, Onuachu went out on loan. This time, he’s expected to leave for good.

Paul Onuachu was signed as a player with plenty of promise. He’s an unorthodox striker who has proven he can score at other clubs. It just wasn’t to be for him at Southampton, perhaps due to morale, but mainly due to the players around him.
Still, Onuachu is not innocent. He, like most of his teammates, is to blame for Southampton being relegated. It is a privilege to play in the Premier League, so there’s no excuse for players not to give 120%.
Despite Onuachu not impressing at Southampton, he’s still held in high regard in Turkey. If he is to move this summer, which looks likely, the Super Lig is the most likely destination.
According to a report from Fotomac (h/t A Spor), Turkish side Trabzonspor is actively trying to sign Paul Onuachu. In fact, they have even submitted an offer worth €4m. This is despite €6m being Southampton’s valuation.
It doesn’t take a genius to work out that even €6m is an absolute steal for a player of Onuachu’s ability. It’s surprising that clubs aren’t queing out the door, offering even double that. Therefore, for Trabzonspor to submit a measly offer which doesn’t even hit 70% of Southampton’s tiny valuation is frankly insulting.
From the fans’ perspective, Southampton’s response should be a swift no. But it wouldn’t be entirely surprising if the offer was accepted either, given the Saints’ track record of underselling themselves.
