Given the stunning emergence of Raiders fullback Kaeo Weekes, Canberra could end up losing a young gun who was once pegged as the club’s No. 1 of the future.
With Fox League’s James Hooper revealing that Weekes has been rewarded by the Raiders with an upgrade worth nearly $2 million for 2028 and 2029, Chevy Stewart’s future with the team is now up in the air.
Stewart was tested in first grade last season, playing in three games at fullback for the Green Machine.
During that brief taste of NRL, the then 19-year-old Stewart displayed his toughness by playing well above his weight and showing signs he had a promising first grade career ahead of him.
Many believed the two-time Blues u-19’s representative would be the Raiders’ fullback long-term. However, with Weekes earning a pricey long-term deal, it appears Stewart might be on the outer.
Hooper said on Wednesday night’s episode of NRL360 that the Sharks and Dragons are two teams interested in Stewart.
Stewart, 20, is a Sharks junior and attended rugby league nursery Endeavour Sports High School which is a 10 minute drive from Shark Park.
