Despite being contracted in the capital until the end of next season, the club have permitted him to explore his options.
Stewart is contracted until the end of 2026. Although the Raiders have permitted him to look around, he’s well within his rights to sit tight.
The Bears will be able to talk to off-contract players from the 1st of November, for 2027.
Stewart can play out his contract in NSW Cup for the Raiders. He’s only 20, and other options here would see him likely play reserve grade straight up anyway.
I don’t know if the Raiders would allow Perth to speak to him. Canberra seem to want his money off the books for next year so a Perth contract in 2027 doesn’t benefit them.
That said, Stewart and his management have to know that Perth need to balance their squad for their inaugural season.
They need a mix of seasoned NRL talent, some stars and some youngsters with their best footy ahead of them.
If he smashes it over the next two months in NSW Cup, I’m sure his name would be on the list of targets for Mal Meninga and co across the country.
There’s every chance he can pick up a one-year deal wherever to bridge the gap, but perhaps another season in reserve grade is good for his long-term prospects.
Every player off contract is going to be linked to Perth in the coming months, but Stewart is a player who can be added with minimal risk.
He also offers a huge upside given his age and talent.
