A Queensland State of Origin squad member has been issued a breach notice and given five days to respond after making controversial comments about match official Ashley Klein.
The notice follows remarks in which the player labelled Klein a “double agent” following Game Two of the Origin series, sparking backlash from both NRL officials and fans.
The governing body described the comments as a serious breach of the NRL’s Code of Conduct, warning that any undermining of match officials’ integrity would not be tolerated.
“The NRL has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to attacks on the integrity and impartiality of our referees,” a league spokesperson said. “Players are expected to uphold the highest standards of respect.”
The player has until mid-next week to formally respond to the notice, after which sanctions — including fines or possible suspension — may be imposed.
