The Parramatta Eels have officially completed a surprise trade involving two of their key players the club’s powerhouse prop and dynamic winger in a move that has stunned fans and reshaped their roster ahead of the 2026 NRL season.
Club sources confirmed late Monday that the Eels reached a long-term agreement with a rival NRL club, finalizing a deal that will see both players move in exchange for a combination of future draft picks and a rising young talent.
The trade, which had been quietly in negotiation for several weeks, reflects Parramatta’s strategy to balance their salary cap and rebuild their forward pack following several injury-plagued seasons.

Eels General Manager Mark O’Neill said the decision was difficult but necessary for the club’s long-term stability.
“We’ve had to make some really tough calls,” O’Neill said. “Both players have been outstanding contributors for us, but this move gives us the flexibility we need to strengthen key areas and invest in the next generation of Eels talent.”
While the Eels have not named the rival club involved, multiple reports suggest that a Queensland-based team was part of the discussions, with the deal reportedly including a three-year contract extension for both players once the transfer is finalized.
The move comes after months of speculation about Parramatta’s recruitment strategy under head coach Brad Arthur, who has publicly emphasized the need to “refresh” the squad after back-to-back seasons outside the top eight.
NRL analyst Michael Ennis described the trade as a “bold gamble” that could reshape the club’s identity.
“Parra’s clearly decided to reset. Letting go of two first-grade regulars isn’t easy, but it signals a commitment to a longer-term rebuild,” Ennis said.
Fans have reacted with mixed emotions on social media — some praising the club for thinking ahead, while others lament the loss of two fan favourites who embodied the Eels’ toughness and spirit.
With the 2026 pre-season only weeks away, attention now turns to who Parramatta will bring in to fill the void and whether the trade ultimately propels the Eels back into premiership contention.
