The Penrith Panthers have been rocked by an unexpected discovery after a 2021 NRL Premiership ring, believed to belong to former player Taylan May, appeared for sale on eBay.
The ring, listed for $10,000, quickly caught the attention of fans and club officials. While the authenticity of the listing has not yet been confirmed publicly, the club has launched an internal investigation to determine how the valuable piece of team history ended up online.
“We are aware of the situation and are looking into it,” a Panthers spokesperson said. “The 2021 Grand Final win is a proud moment in our club’s history, and the integrity of that achievement is important to everyone involved.”
May, who was part of the squad during the club’s dominant run, has not made a public statement. Sources close to the player say he is “surprised” by the listing.
NRL officials have also been made aware of the sale. While selling memorabilia is not uncommon, the appearance of an official Premiership ring raises questions about player protocols and potential breaches of club agreements.
Fans have expressed concern and curiosity online, with many calling for answers and others speculating about the ring’s origins.
