Kemp Challenges Walsh to Find Consistency as Broncos Eye Finals
Former Bronco Denan Kemp has urged Reece Walsh to decide what kind of player he wants to be, warning that the 23-year-old’s erratic form is hurting Brisbane’s push for the top eight.
While Walsh lit up the win over South Sydney, his errors proved costly in the 22-2 loss to Melbourne, with Kemp calling for a calmer, more consistent approach to match his $5 million price tag.

“Walshy needs to calm his mind and figure out what he wants to be,” Kemp told SEN Radio. “You can’t build a club around a player who’s so up and down.”
Despite the criticism, Walsh’s all-out effort remains unquestioned, with fans hoping he can harness his flair and lead the Broncos through a tough stretch without Adam Reynolds and Ezra Mam.
Michael Maguire facing halves dilemma at Broncos
Speaking after the game, Maguire admitted he hadn’t thought about how his team will line-up after the injuries, but Hunt will most likely move into the halves in Reynolds’ absence. And Kemp claimed Maguire will be hesitant to throw highly-touted youngster Coby Black into the starting XIII this early and suggests Jock Madden will jump in.
“They’ll probably bring in Madden, Ben Hunt will probably go into 7,” Kemp said. “I think it might be a bit too soon, I reckon,” Kemp added about Black. “Maybe off the bench, just to see how he goes. But if you got a guy like Hunt…just chuck Ben Hunt in there.”
