Georgia’s 3 most painful transfer losses that could haunt the Bulldogs in 2025

Georgia football has quickly become one of the teams who were the biggest winners this offseason in the transfer portal. But it wasn’t a perfect offseason for the Bulldogs as they lost a few key players to other programs as well.

So while every loss wasn’t that bad for Georgia, there is a chance that Georgia fans will really miss these three former Bulldogs later this fall.

Georgia Tech v Georgia

1. QB Carson Beck

Georgia fans may not want to admit this, but quarterback Carson Beck was a massive loss this offseason. While Beck did have his limitations this past season, he is a proven quarterback that knows how to win at the highest level. That is something that UGA’s next QB has not yet proven.

Georgia will either start Gunner Stockton or Ryan Puglisi this fall, but both players will be first time starters at the college level, so there is a lot of uncertainty as to how they will perform. However, everyone already knows that Beck would be good enough to make another run to an SEC Championship.

Time will tell how Stockton or Puglisi do, but if things go sideways this fall fans might start wishing that Beck never left.

2. EDGE Damon Wilson

One of the most shocking departures this offseason for Georgia was when EDGE Damon Wilson decided to make the move to Missouri.

Wilson was never a star at Georgia as he only recorded three sacks during the 2024 season, but expectations were sky high for him entering 2025 as he projected to become a starter and leader for Georgia for the first time in his career. But instead of becoming the new star in Athens, he decided to make the move to an SEC rival.

Thankfully Georgia went out and got Elo Modozie from Army who might be a better player than Wilson, but there is no denying Wilson’s loss will sting all season long.

3. CB Julian Humphrey

This selection may be a little controversial, but corner Julian Humphrey was a big loss for Georgia this offseason as well. Humphrey was a key player in Georgia’s secondary this past season until he wasn’t as he started most of the regular season before losing that job and no longer playing.

Based on the fact that he lost his starting spot during the season, one could argue this isn’t a bad loss at all. But there’s no telling how much Humphrey would have improved this offseason, and losing someone with this much experience will always be difficult to overcome.

Similarly to the loss of Wilson, Georgia did get some help in their secondary out of the portal, so that will help make this loss not as noticeable. But Humphrey would have been a nice player to have because at the very least he would have been a very solid depth piece for Georgia’s secondary.
