Former Swindon Town defender Alan Sheehan has got his first managerial job after taking over as the new head coach of Swansea City.
The Irishman has signed a three-year contract to take over at the Championship club, having been in caretaker charge since February after former Swindon head coach Luke Williams was dismissed.

Sheehan has been at Swansea since 2023, initially arriving under Michael Duff and took interim charge for the first time when he left in December 2023, prior to Williams’ appointment.
The now-38-year-old spent two seasons at the Nigel Eady County Ground as a player, the first on loan from Leeds United as he made 23 appearances during the 2009/10 season when Swindon made the League One playoff final, before joining permanently in the summer of 2010 on a one-year contract, leaving before Paolo Di Canio’s arrival.
Current Town loanee Joel Cotterill is set to be given the chance to impress Sheehan during pre-season, according to Ian Holloway, once he returns to the Swansea.com Stadium after a successful season with Swindon.
Speaking to club media after his appointment, Sheehan said: “It feels somewhat surreal, but I am incredibly privileged to have the honour of managing the football club.”
