Parramatta Eels centre Bailey Simonsson has officially requested a release from his current contract with the club, in a move that has taken many by surprise.
Simonsson, who joined the Eels from the Canberra Raiders in 2022, has been a regular feature in the backline, known for his speed, physicality, and versatility. However, the 26-year-old is now seeking a fresh start elsewhere, despite still being contracted to the Eels.

While the club has yet to make an official decision regarding the request, discussions are reportedly ongoing between Simonsson’s management and the Eels’ front office.
Eels General Manager of Football, Mark O’Neill, responded briefly to the situation:
“Bailey has been an important part of our squad and has expressed a desire to explore new opportunities. We’re currently working through the request with his management and will act in the best interest of both the player and the club.”
The reasons behind Simonsson’s request remain unclear, but it is understood that a number of rival NRL clubs and overseas teams have shown interest in the talented back.
If the release is granted, it could pave the way for a shake-up in Parramatta’s outside back stocks, with younger players potentially stepping into the fold.
