Dawn Staley has found her newest assistant coach. South Carolina announced the hiring of new women’s basketball assistant coach Wendale Farrow on Friday afternoon.
Farrow, 37, joins the Gamecocks after four years as an assistant at Southern Cal and fills the hole on Staley’s staff left vacant by Winston Gandy, who departed earlier this month to be the head coach at Grand Canyon.
“We struck gold in bringing Wendale into our Gamecock family,” Staley said in a news release.
“He is an accomplished young coach who has been part of every aspect of successful programs, and that journey has made him a seasoned, complete coach from Xs and Os to player development to recruiting to community service. We’re excited to see the huge impact he will make on our team and Columbia.” Prior to his time at Southern Cal, he also logged five seasons as an assistant at Cal.
Before his time on the West Coast, Farrow served as an assistant for a season at Vanderbilt during the 2015-16 season.
Farrow got his start in coaching at UCLA in 2013, where he spent two seasons as video coordinator, among other things. Farrow played college ball himself.
He started his career at American River (Calif.) Junior College before finishing his final two seasons at Eastern Michigan.
After he graduated in 2009 he stayed on there as a graduate manager for two years.
