Penrith Panthers have confirmed that Phil Gould has stepped down from his role as Executive General Manager Rugby League.
Gould, who rejoined the club in 2011 and has been instrumental in developing the Panthers’ junior pathways and strengthening their football operations, reportedly met with club leadership and concluded that his position “has become redundant.”
Club CEO Brian Fletcher issued a statement saying Gould was clear in his view that the role needed to evolve or cease, and that both parties agreed it was time for a change. “While further reflection will come once formalities are settled, we wish to acknowledge the extraordinary impact Phil has had since returning to Penrith. He has shaped so much of what the club is today.”
Fans and pundits alike have praised Gould’s contributions, noting his hand in guiding the Panthers through sustained success, especially in the development of young talent and in building a strong club culture.
The Panthers board are now reviewing the club’s management structure to determine what comes next.
