Castleford Tigers issue club statement with ‘fresh start’ promise made to fans

Castleford Tigers have released a statement regarding their online social media presence, in a bid to engage with more fans in the future.

The club have announced that any social media account that has previously been blocked by the club will be unblocked, as they look to provide a “fresh start” moving forward.

However, the club have confirmed that anyone blocked previously due to discriminatory comments made will remain blocked.

With Castleford declaring they will be making an application to the expanded Super League competition in 2026, they believe their current status in Super League could be at risk. The move will hope to improve the digital output pillar of IMG’s grading criteria. Social media following, online engagements such as likes, comments and shares and website visits make up a potential 1.5 points in the grading system, something that could play a factor in top-flight survival.

Next season is set to be a big one for the West Yorkshire club, after announcing four signings already, all with NRL experience. Their latest recruit is North Queensland Cowboys winger, Semi Valemei, who is a seven-time Fijian international and has averaged a try every other game in his NRL career.

Castleford Tigers release statement that provides an update on blocked Social Media accounts

The statement reads in full:

“In a further attempt to grow relationships with the fanbase and focus on a more positive future, we can confirm that fans who have previously been blocked on social media by the Club will be unblocked, creating a fresh start as we look ahead to an important year.

“Only supporters who have used racial, sexist, or homophobic comments will remain blocked from Club channels.

“This measure has been taken to encourage supporters to engage openly with the Club ahead of our centenary year, although we will take this opportunity to confirm that any abusive behaviour will not be tolerated moving forward.”
