The Brisbane Broncos have been dealt a major blow with the news that star hooker Billy Walters has suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
The club confirmed the shock injury this week, revealing that Walters sustained the damage during training. Scans later confirmed a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), which will sideline him for the remainder of the 2025 NRL season.
Walters has been a key figure in the Broncos’ spine this year, helping guide the team with his strong defence and creative play around the ruck. His absence will leave a big gap in Brisbane’s lineup as they push toward finals contention.
Coach Kevin Walters, who is also Billy’s father, said the team was “devastated” by the news.
> “It’s heartbreaking for Billy and the club. He’s worked incredibly hard this season,” Walters said. “But we know he’ll come back stronger.”
The Broncos are now expected to turn to young backup Tyson Smoothy to fill the void at hooker for the rest of the season.
