In a stunning act of generosity and social responsibility, University of North Carolina Men’s Basketball Coach Hubert Davis has announced he is donating 100% of his $12.9 million in recent bonus and sponsorship earnings to launch a major homeless shelter and housing initiative across North Carolina.
The donation will directly fund the construction of 150 transitional housing units and provide 300 shelter beds, with wraparound services for individuals and families in need.
> “I’ve seen the effects of homelessness firsthand growing up,” said Davis. “This is personal. Everyone deserves dignity, shelter, and a chance to rebuild.”
The initiative, dubbed “HomeCourt Advantage,” will partner with local nonprofits and urban development agencies to fast-track housing for vulnerable populations across Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill.
This marks one of the largest single philanthropic contributions by a college coach in U.S. history, and has already sparked a wave of support across the NCAA and professional sports community.
UNC Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz called the move “a masterclass in leadership beyond the court,” adding, “Coach Davis is showing the nation what Tar Heel values really mean.”
Construction is set to begin later this year, with the first shelters expected to open by spring 2026.
