In a major coup for Super League, Hull Kingston Rovers have announced the blockbuster signing of Australian forward Ryan Matterson on a lucrative $870,000 deal.
The 30-year-old Parramatta Eels star will join the East Yorkshire club ahead of the 2026 season, bringing a wealth of NRL experience and representative pedigree to Craven Park. Matterson, who has previously played for the Sydney Roosters and Wests Tigers, is known for his powerful ball-running, defensive work rate, and versatility in the forward pack.
Sources close to the deal suggest the contract will span two years, making Matterson one of the highest-paid players in Super League history.
Hull KR head coach Willie Peters expressed his excitement:
“Ryan is a world-class forward with a tremendous work ethic and leadership qualities. His arrival signals our ambition to challenge for titles and raise the standard of our squad.”
Matterson, who has represented New South Wales in State of Origin and played over 150 NRL games, becomes the latest high-profile Australian to make the leap to the UK competition, following in the footsteps of Jackson Hastings, Blake Austin, and John Bateman.
Speaking after the announcement, Matterson said:
“I’m excited for a new chapter in my career. Hull KR has a strong vision, and I’m looking forward to embracing the challenge and contributing to something special in Super League.”
The move is expected to boost Hull KR’s profile both on and off the field, with fans eagerly anticipating the star forward’s impact when he debuts in the red and white jersey next season.
