In a surprise twist that’s caught fans and pundits off guard, the Parramatta Eels have signed versatile Panthers utility Jaeman Salmon on a two-year deal starting in 2026.
While not the blockbuster name many expected, club insiders insist that Salmon’s signing is part of a bigger plan to bring depth, flexibility, and finals experience to the Eels’ spine.
> “He’s been underrated for years,” said one Eels coach. “He brings that gritty edge we’ve been missing. He’s tough, he’s versatile, and he knows what it takes to win.”
Salmon, 26, previously played for the Eels between 2018–2020 and returns after stints with the Raiders and Panthers. His time in Penrith included two premierships, mostly off the bench, but insiders say his game has matured and he’s ready for a bigger role.
Eels fans were initially confused by the announcement, but many took to social media in support:
> “If BA sees something in him, I’m backing it. It’s our year!” one fan wrote on X.
> “He’s got premiership experience – not many in our squad can say that.”
The Eels are reportedly planning to use Salmon as a floating No. 14 with potential to slot in at five-eighth or lock, depending on team injuries and match-ups.
Panthers fans, meanwhile, have responded with mixed feelings, with some welcoming the departure and others worried Parramatta might unlock his potential.
More details are expected to emerge as pre-season draws closer.
