The college football spring transfer portal window opened on April 16 and will close on April 25.
The biggest name on the market was Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who found a new home at UCLA in a big turn of events.
Now, another high-profile player is in the portal: Former Texas and Washington wide receiver Johntay Cook II.
Cook, who was a five-star prospect in high school, spent two seasons at Texas before entering the portal in November 2024.
Cook then transferred to Washington, although he left the program after “roughly 48 hours” on the Washington campus.
Now, the former Texas WR is drawing interest in the portal once again.
Cook is a top-11 player in the portal, per 247Sports, and took a visit to Syracuse, as Chris Hummer of 247Sports mentioned on Monday.
Syracuse is an interesting spot for Cook, and the Orange just saw wide receiver Trebor Peña enter the portal in hopes of a $2 million NIL deal.
Cook visited Arizona State over the Easter weekend, so there is a market for him despite his questionable past and a series of arrests.
After leaving Washington, Cook was arrested twice in a matter of weeks, once for theft and interference with public duties and another time for marijuana possession.
Still, the talent is evident for the former five-star prospect. In 20 combined games at Texas, he caught just 16 passes for 273 yards and two scores, although he was logjammed behind a loaded group of pass-catchers with the Longhorns.
