BREAKING: Boston Red Sox Sign Anthony Rizzo to Permanent Deal, Replacing Triston Casas as First Baseman for the Season

In a surprising move, the Boston Red Sox have officially signed veteran first baseman Anthony Rizzo to a permanent contract for the remainder of the season, making him the team’s new starting first baseman. This decision comes as the Sox move to replace Triston Casas, who has struggled with consistency at the plate in recent weeks.

Rizzo, a three-time Gold Glove winner and two-time All-Star, joins Boston after a standout tenure with the New York Yankees, where he established himself as one of the league’s most reliable power hitters and defensive assets. His leadership and experience will be key as the Red Sox continue their push for the postseason.

“We’re excited to bring in a player of Anthony’s caliber,” said Red Sox General Manager Chaim Bloom. “His defensive prowess and veteran presence in the clubhouse will be a huge asset as we head into the second half of the season. Triston has immense potential, and we’re confident this decision will allow him to develop further, while also putting us in the best position to win.”

Rizzo, who will wear No. 44 for the Sox, expressed his excitement about joining the storied franchise. “It’s an honor to play for such a historic team,” said Rizzo. “I’ve always admired the Red Sox fanbase and the culture here. I’m ready to get to work and help this team win.”

Casas, the 23-year-old former top prospect, will now transition into a more developmental role, potentially getting more time in the minor leagues to continue working on his swing and overall game.

This move raises questions about the future of the first base position in Boston, but for now, the Red Sox are hoping Rizzo’s bat and glove will help provide the consistency needed to get the team back into contention.

Fans can expect to see Rizzo in action as early as this weekend’s series against the Baltimore Orioles.
