Queensland Maroons head coach Billy Slater has shocked fans by revealing he’s unsure if he will continue in the role in 2026.
Although Slater signed a contract extension in 2023 to coach the Maroons until the end of 2026, he now says he’s still thinking about what comes next.
> “I’ve loved coaching this team, but I have to think about my family, my farm, and what’s right for me moving forward,” Slater said.
The news has surprised many, especially after Slater led Queensland to multiple Origin wins in recent years. His coaching has been praised for bringing energy, discipline, and a winning culture back to the team.
Queensland Rugby League (QRL) has not yet commented on Slater’s statement, but fans are already wondering who might take over if he steps down early.
For now, Slater remains focused on finishing the 2025 series strong — but his future beyond that is suddenly unclear.
