Over the last few days, rumors have been circulating about Nick Saban returning to coaching next year.
He’ll be 74 by then, but as shown by his work for ESPN’s “College GameDay,” he still has a profound passion for the sport.
With Saban leaving his headset due to the NIL landscape, it would be unlikely that he would return to a collegiate sideline, which would open the door to a potential move to the NFL.
Despite his advanced age, Saban could come in for a few years and try to help push a Super Bowl contender over the hump.
But is it worth leaving his job as a beloved analyst with a lengthy off-season to return to the stress and unrelenting grind of coaching a pro squad?
During an appearance on FOX News, Saban finally broke his silence on the mounting speculation in comedic fashion.
“I never really had any thought about getting into coaching until two days ago, when Ms. Terry said I had to run the sweeper through the entire downstairs,” Saban said. “So while I was running the sweeper, the thought occurred to me that when I was coaching, I had a heck of a lot better job than this.”
Although Saban was obviously flexing his dry sense of humor, the fact that he even addressed the premise of ending his retirement was fascinating.

As fun as it is to think of hypotheticals, Saban appears content with seven national championships and endless hours to work on his golf game.
