The Brisbane Broncos have locked in a crucial member of their spine, with a two-year contract extension worth $900,000 set to be finalized by the end of the week.
The deal, which sources say is valued at $450,000 per season, will see Billy Walters remain at Red Hill through the end of 2027, further solidifying the team’s core ahead of the upcoming finals series.
Walters, 30, has been a steady presence at hooker and a vocal leader through the middle, contributing to the Broncos’ strong 2025 campaign alongside playmakers Adam Reynolds and Reece Walsh. His extension follows the earlier re-signing of superstar forward Payne Haas, whose multi-year, million-dollar deal underscored the club’s intent to build long-term success on a foundation of stability and leadership.
“This extension reflects how much we value experience in key positions,” Broncos coach Michael Maguire said. “He brings balance, toughness, and maturity to our team. It’s well deserved.”
While not as flashy as some of the club’s marquee names, Walters’ consistency and versatility have made him one of the Broncos’ most underrated assets. The new deal ensures the club retains its spine cohesion as it eyes its first premiership since 2006.
An official announcement is expected from the club later this week.
