Sydney Roosters Announce Seven-Player Signing Spree Headlined

The Sydney Roosters have made a bold statement ahead of the 2026 NRL season, confirming the signing of seven new players in a recruitment drive headlined by highly touted rookie halfback.

The 20-year-old playmaker, who starred for the Roosters’ NSW Cup affiliate this year, is tipped to be the club’s next long-term No. 7.

In a press release issued this morning, Roosters head coach Trent Robinson said the club’s focus was on “re-energizing the squad with youth and versatility” following a mixed 2025 campaign that saw them fall just short of the preliminary finals.

“We’ve invested heavily in development and in players who understand our system,” Robinson said. “Liam [Tavita] has the temperament and football IQ we look for in a halfback, and we believe he’ll thrive under our senior leaders.”

Joining Tavita in the new-look Roosters squad are:

  • Kane Patterson – explosive back-rower from the Bulldogs’ under-21s,
  • Ethan Saulo – powerful front-rower from the Warriors system,
  • Tommy Randle – dynamic outside back from Queensland Cup,
  • Jayden Katoa – versatile utility capable of covering hooker and lock,
  • Max Delaney – goal-kicking centre from the NSW Cup, and
  • Jacob Naufahu – promising edge forward from New Zealand’s Auckland league scene.

Veteran captain James Tedesco welcomed the influx of fresh talent, saying competition for spots would drive standards during the pre-season.

“The young boys have come in hungry and eager to learn,” Tedesco said. “That’s exactly what you want heading into a new campaign.”

The Roosters are expected to finalise their 30-man roster in the coming weeks, with speculation still swirling about potential extensions for several senior players, including Joseph Manu and Luke Keary.

Pre-season training officially kicks off in early November, with the Roosters eyeing a strong return to premiership contention in 2026.
