Markeshia's Corner: Gamecocks are headed to the Final Four, It Just Means More

A GOAT once said, “If we listened to them, we would be where they are—they not like us.”

And if South Carolina had listened to the doubters, the naysayers the HATERS—the ones who thought losing Kamilla Cardoso to the WNBA, Ashlyn Watkins to injury, and not having a “dominant” big would hold them back—the Gamecocks wouldn’t be in the Final Four. Yet, here they are headed to their fifth straight Final Four. It Just Means More.

Chloe Kitts – Birmingham Regional MVP

Chloe Kitts handled business! When she’s hitting threes, you already know she’s locked in. That first one falls, and it’s a wrap—it’s about to be one of those games. She stepped up when it mattered most, hitting two clutch free throws to seal the win. She had 14 points, 4 boards, and added another accolade to her resume—Regional MVP. Big-time players show up in big-time moments.

Sania Feagin – Birmingham Regional All-Tournament Team

Sania was locked in from start to finish against Duke—turnaround jumpers, putbacks, offensive boards, blocks, clutch steals—you name it, she did it. She dropped 12 points on 54% shooting, grabbed 8 rebounds, had 3 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. But when the game was on the line for chance to go to the Final 4, Sania she came up with one of the biggest steals of her career with 5.8 seconds left in the fourth to secure the Gamecocks’ win. Big-time players. Big-time plays.

Bench Production – Seatbelt Gang

South Carolina’s bench didn’t have its usual scoring output but they definitely played crucial roles in the Gamecocks’ win over Duke. MiLaysia Fulwiley and Joyce Edwards combined for 9 points, while Tessa Johnson locked in on defense, giving crucial minutes against Reigan Richardson and Ashlon Jackson.

With this win, Raven Johnson, Breezy Hall, and Sania Feagin are heading to their fourth straight Final Four. They are the first trio to go to four straight Final Fours in Gamecock women’s basketball program History. What an amazing feet!

Now, the Gamecocks turn their focus to Texas for the fourth time this season, holding a 2-1 edge in the series. With everything on the line, expect South Carolina to step into this Final Four matchup the same way they always do—locked in and ready to handle business.
