Indiana Fever Star Aliyah Boston Lands Impressive Job

Aliyah Boston can lead the short-handed Indiana Fever to a stunning WNBA Finals appearance on Tuesday night. The burgeoning star will reportedly receive another significant opportunity off the court.

According to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, Boston is completing a deal with NBC and Peacock. The All-Star forward would work as a studio analyst and possibly serve as a Big Ten basketball in-game analyst.

Boston contributed to NBC’s Big Ten women’s college basketball coverage during the 2023-24 season after graduating from South Carolina with a communications degree.

There’s precedent for active basketball players simultaneously pursuing a career in broadcasting. Chiney Ogwumike began working for ESPN while playing for the Los Angeles Sparks, and Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green frequently appeared on TNT’s NBA coverage.

These broadcasting aspirations certainly haven’t hindered Boston’s on-court performance.

Boston finished sixth in this season’s MVP voting after averaging 15.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, and a career-high 3.7 assists per game. The 2023 Rookie of the Year led the Fever to a 24-20 record despite injuries to Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, Aari McDonald, and Sydney Colson.

Indiana upset the No. 2-seeded Atlanta Dream in the first round after Boston fueled a winner-take-all Game 3 victory with 14 points, 12 boards, and six assists. The Fever are now giving the Las Vegas Aces all they can handle in the second round.

After Indiana stole Game 1 on the road, Vegas appeared to take control of the best-of-five series with two double-digit wins. Boston, however, wouldn’t let the Fever go down without a fight.

The Fever avoided elimination with a 90-83 win on Sunday behind another exceptional performance from Boston, who tallied 24 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks. Lexie Hull commended Boston for standing toe-to-toe with A’ja Wilson this series.

“She’s a force in the paint,” Hull said of Boston, “and we wouldn’t have won last night’s game, any of our games without her.”

The Fever can punch their ticket to the WNBA Finals with a Game 5 victory over the Aces. The game starts at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
