HUGE BOOST: South Carolina gamecocks Welcome 5-star intriguing name From Transfer Portal

The South Carolina Gamecocks and head coach Dawn Staley are still fresh off of their national championship loss against Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies.

After coming up just one win short of another championship, South Carolina is looking to be aggressive and take the next step during the 2025-26 season. To that end, the Gamecocks need to bring in more talent via the transfer portal.

Staley and South Carolina have received an intriguing transfer portal update on Saturday.

According to a report from Talia Goodman of On3 Sports, Mississippi State transfer Madina Okot is currently visitin with the Gamecocks and Staley. She is coming off of a 2024-25 season where she averaged 11.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

In addition to her points and rebound averages, Okot registered 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. She also shot 64.9% from the floor.

Standing in at 6-foot-6, the Mumias, Kenya native would be a great addition for Staley and company. She would bring size, scoring, and rebound to the court, but most importantly she could help the team defensively.

Joining South Carolina is one of the most sought after destinations for recruits and transfer portal players alike. Staley has turned the Gamecocks’ women’s basketball program into a dynasty.

Since taking over as the team’s head back in the 2008-09 campaign, Staley has led South Carolina to a 475-110 record. That record is good for an 81.2% win rate.

Not only has Staley won in the regular season, she has also led the program to three women’s basketball national championships.
