Greatest Bronco of All Time: Payne Haas Claims Record Sixth Paul Morgan Medal

The debate is over Payne Haas has officially cemented his status as the greatest Brisbane Bronco of all time, after being crowned the Paul Morgan Medal winner for a record sixth time.

The powerhouse forward, still only in his mid-20s, continues to redefine what dominance looks like in the modern era of rugby league. His historic achievement came during the Broncos’ glittering end-of-season awards night, where teammates, coaches, and legends of the club rose to their feet in applause.

Six-Time Champion of Consistency

The Paul Morgan Medal, awarded annually to the Broncos’ best and fairest player, has become synonymous with Haas’ name. Since making his debut, he has been a model of consistency — leading the club in metres gained, tackles made, and minutes played, season after season.

Coach Michael Maguire praised Haas not only for his athleticism but for his leadership and professionalism.

“Payne sets the standard every single day,” Maguire said. “What makes him special isn’t just what he does on the field — it’s how he inspires everyone around him. He’s the heartbeat of this team.”

A Legacy Still Being Written

With six Paul Morgan Medals now to his name, Haas has surpassed Broncos icons including Darren Lockyer, Allan Langer, and Corey Parker, further solidifying his legacy as one of the most influential players in the club’s storied history.

Former captain Corey Parker, who presented the award on the night, described Haas as “a once-in-a-generation forward.”

“What he’s achieved at such a young age is extraordinary,” Parker said. “He’s not done yet — that’s the scary part.”

A Season to Remember

The 2025 season was one of Haas’ finest. Averaging more than 180 running metres per game and playing a pivotal role in Brisbane’s premiership triumph, the prop’s endurance and consistency were unmatched.

His efforts in both attack and defence earned him praise across the league, with many pundits predicting he’s on track to become one of the greatest forwards in NRL history — not just in Broncos colours.

Humble in Victory

True to form, Haas downplayed his achievement, dedicating the award to his teammates and the club’s supporters.

“This club means everything to me,” Haas said. “I wouldn’t be standing here without the boys beside me and the fans who’ve backed us every step of the way. This one’s for them.”

Summary:

  • Payne Haas wins record sixth Paul Morgan Medal.
  • Breaks club record previously held by Broncos legends.
  • Key figure in Brisbane’s 2025 premiership campaign.
  • Described as the greatest Bronco of all time by peers and pundits alike.
