Former Panther Taylan May Signs Shock $900 Million Train-and-Trial Deal with Wests Tigers

In a move that has stunned the NRL world, former Penrith Panthers star Taylan May has signed a jaw-dropping $900 million train-and-trial contract with the Wests Tigers.

The deal, which will see May join the Tigers in a developmental role, has raised eyebrows across the rugby league community, with the sheer size of the contract leaving fans and experts alike questioning the logic behind such a massive commitment to a player who has yet to fully prove himself at the Tigers.

May, a dynamic winger with a mix of speed and power, made a significant impact during his time at Penrith, contributing to their back-to-back premiership wins. However, a series of injuries and off-field issues have limited his playing time in recent seasons.

Despite these challenges, Wests Tigers have moved quickly to secure May’s services, offering him a deal that will keep him at the club for an indefinite period, dependent on his performance and fitness.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Tigers,” said May in a statement. “This is a fresh start for me, and I’m determined to repay the faith that the club has shown in me. I know it’s a big deal, but I’m ready to put in the hard work.”

The unprecedented figure attached to May’s contract has raised questions about the Tigers’ long-term strategy, particularly considering their position in the league standings. Despite an influx of new signings over the past few years, the Tigers have struggled with consistency, and many fans are eager to see whether this bold move will pay off.

Tigers’ CEO, Tim Sheens, defended the decision, emphasizing May’s potential and the need to take risks in rebuilding the squad. “Taylan’s raw talent is undeniable,” Sheens said. “We’ve seen what he can do when he’s fully fit, and we believe that he can help us get to the next level. This deal represents the kind of bold moves we need to make to get back to the top.”

While May’s signing is certainly a gamble, the Wests Tigers are hoping that his addition will be the spark they need to return to the NRL finals for the first time in over a decade.

As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on May, as both his performance on the field and the impact of his unprecedented contract are sure to dominate headlines.
