Five Parramatta Eels Players Decline Contract Extensions Amid Roster Shake-Up

The Parramatta Eels are facing a turbulent off-season after five first-grade players reportedly declined contract extensions, signaling a major roster reshuffle ahead of the 2026 NRL season.

According to club insiders, Blaize Talagi, Dylan Brown, Maika Sivo, Junior Paulo, and Reagan Campbell-Gillard have either rejected or delayed new offers from the club as they assess their futures in the league.

Talagi’s Departure Confirmed

The most notable confirmed exit is Blaize Talagi, the young utility back who impressed during the 2024 campaign. Talagi’s management informed the Eels that he would not re-sign beyond 2025, with several rival clubs — including the Newcastle Knights and Sydney Roosters — expressing strong interest in securing his services.

“Blaize has a bright future and wants to explore where he can best develop his game,” an Eels official told NRL.com. “We’re disappointed but understand his decision.”

Dylan Brown Weighs Big Offers

Star five-eighth Dylan Brown is reportedly at the center of a $1.3 million-per-season offer from the Newcastle Knights, which could make him one of the highest-paid players in NRL history. While the Eels have tabled a counteroffer, sources say Brown is leaning toward a move north in search of a fresh challenge after a frustrating 2024 season.

Sivo, Paulo, and RCG Uncertain

Veteran winger Maika Sivo, along with forwards Junior Paulo and Reagan Campbell-Gillard, are also believed to be stalling on contract renewals.
All three have drawn interest from rival clubs, particularly those looking to strengthen their forward packs and backline experience. Paulo, a two-time State of Origin representative, has been linked to the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, while Campbell-Gillard is rumored to be on the radar of the Gold Coast Titans.

Club Statement

Eels General Manager Mark O’Neill released a brief statement acknowledging the uncertainty:

“We’re in the middle of negotiations with several players. It’s part of the natural cycle of roster management. Our focus remains on building a squad that can deliver consistent finals appearances.”

What It Means for Parramatta

The departures — or potential departures — could signal a rebuild for the Eels after a disappointing 2024 campaign that saw them finish outside the top eight. Coach Brad Arthur, who remains under pressure after consecutive underperforming seasons, may need to rely more heavily on emerging talents such as Ethan Sanders, Richard Penisini, and Jirah Momoisea heading into 2026.

Fans, however, are growing anxious. Many took to social media to express concern that the club’s retention issues could derail long-term success.

With multiple stars weighing their options and several high-profile clubs circling, the Eels’ recruitment team faces one of its most critical off-seasons in years.

Summary:

  • Five players — Talagi, Brown, Sivo, Paulo, and Campbell-Gillard — have declined or delayed extensions.
  • Newcastle Knights lead chase for Brown.
  • Possible rebuild phase ahead of 2026 season.
