In a heartfelt statement earlier today, South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley addressed MiLaysia Fulwiley’s unexpected entry into the NCAA transfer portal, expressing both support and emotion for the rising star guard.
“MiLaysia made a personal decision that we respect,” Staley said. “She’s grown so much here — not just as a player, but as a person. And no matter where she goes, she’s always gonna be a Gamecock.”
Fulwiley, a Columbia native and fan favorite, was instrumental in South Carolina’s run to the Final Four this past season, known for her explosive athleticism and flashy ball-handling. While speculation swirls about her next move, Staley emphasized the importance of supporting players in their individual journeys.
“We want what’s best for her,” she continued. “She’ll always have a home here.”
