BREAKING: Broncos Re-Sign Cory Paix in Surprise Two-Year Deal Amid Depth Concerns

In a move that has caught many fans and analysts off guard, the Brisbane Broncos have re-signed hooker Cory Paix on a two-year deal, extending his stay at Red Hill through the end of the 2027 NRL season.

The surprise announcement comes amid mounting concerns about the club’s depth in the dummy-half role, with injuries and inconsistent performances plaguing their spine throughout the season. Paix, 25, had previously been linked with a potential move away from the club, but the new contract signals renewed faith from Broncos management.

“Cory’s experience, versatility, and work ethic make him a valuable asset to our squad,” Broncos coach Kevin Walters said in a statement. “He knows our system well and gives us added depth and reliability in a key position.”

Paix has made over 50 appearances for the Broncos since debuting in 2020, often filling in during crucial periods when the club has been stretched thin. While not always a first-choice starter, his defensive grit and steady service from dummy half have earned him respect within the locker room.

The Broncos have faced increased scrutiny in recent weeks over their lack of depth, particularly with injuries to key players in their spine. The re-signing of Paix may be a strategic move to shore up their bench strength heading into the business end of the season.

The deal is also a sign of the Broncos’ desire to retain homegrown talent and build continuity amid an increasingly competitive NRL marketplace.

More details about Paix’s role for the remainder of the season are expected to emerge in the coming days, but for now, Broncos fans can breathe a little easier knowing another familiar face will be staying put.
