Sophie Cunningham Addresses Her Future With the Indiana Fever

The Indiana Fever’s season came to an end after losing in semifinals of the WNBA playoffs to the Las Vegas Aces.

The team dealt with five season-ending injuries this year, to Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson and Chloe Bibby.

On Thursday, the team gathered one last time for exit interviews, and Cunningham, a fan favorite, discussed her future with the team.

“I have loved being here, and I don’t think that’s news to anybody. … I’ve been in the league seven years, and I’ve never been part of a team like this,” Cunningham said, per Fever beat reporter Chloe Peterson.

Cunningham is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and announced her plans to look at other teams as well as the Fever.

“I might be blonde, but I can’t just not look at other opportunities,” Cunningham said.

Before joining the Fever last offseason through a trade, Cunningham played alongside Brittney Griner with the Phoenix Mercury.

She played six seasons in Phoenix after being drafted by the team in the second round of the 2019 WNBA Draft.

Cunningham finished this season averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. The 6-foot-1 guard carved out a big role in head coach Stephanie White’s squad, starting in 13 games and playing 25.2 minutes per game.
