The Brisbane Broncos are on the verge of completing their seventh major signing for the 2026 NRL season, with veteran playmaker Ben Hunt heavily linked to a return to Red Hill.
Multiple sources close to the club have confirmed that negotiations with Hunt are well advanced, and a formal announcement could be made within days. The 34-year-old St George Illawarra Dragons captain has been the subject of ongoing speculation, with Brisbane reportedly keen to add his experience and leadership to a young and evolving squad.
If confirmed, Hunt would join a growing list of players already locked in for 2026 as the Broncos continue to reshape their roster:
Adam Reynolds – Veteran halfback re-signed through the end of 2026
Kotoni Staggs – Powerful centre extended until the end of 2028
Blake Mozer – Promising hooker signed a two-year extension
Josiah Karapani – Outside back signed until the end of 2027
Grant Anderson – New recruit from Melbourne Storm on a two-year deal
Tom Duffy – Halfback signed for 2026 from the Cowboys
Hunt began his NRL career with the Broncos in 2009 and played over 180 games for the club before moving to the Dragons in 2018. A return would be seen as a full-circle moment and a major boost to the club’s spine depth, especially as Adam Reynolds nears retirement.
Speaking earlier this week, Broncos coach Kevin Walters remained tight-lipped but hinted that the club was “not done yet” in the recruitment space.
> “We’ve made some really smart signings so far. We want experience and composure in key areas, and we’re working hard behind the scenes to finalise our plans,” Walters said.
With seven players now committed for 2026 and more potentially on the way, the Broncos are sending a clear message: they are building for sustained success.
