Tragedy at Suncorp: Broncos Fan Suffers Fatal Heart Attack Moments Before Kickoff

A moment of celebration quickly turned to sorrow at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday evening when a long-time Brisbane Broncos supporter suffered a fatal heart attack just moments before the team’s Round 15 clash against the Gold Coast Titans.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, collapsed in the stands during the pre-match warm-up. Paramedics responded swiftly and performed CPR, but despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been publicly released out of respect for the family’s privacy.

Witnesses described the scene as “heartbreaking,” with fans nearby doing everything they could to assist until emergency services arrived.

Club Pays Tribute

Following the incident, the Broncos confirmed the tragic news in a heartfelt statement, offering condolences to the man’s family and acknowledging his decades-long support of the club.

“We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of one of our most loyal supporters tonight. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone affected,” the statement read.

“He was part of the Broncos family, and we will ensure he is remembered.”

In a touching gesture, players wore black armbands during the second half of the match. Star captain Adam Reynolds, visibly emotional post-game, presented a signed jersey to the man’s relatives.

Broncos Storm to Victory Amid Grief

Despite the emotional prelude, the Broncos delivered one of their most commanding performances of the season, thrashing the Titans 44–14. The win was later described by several players as being “for him.”

“It hits you hard. You go out there to play a game, but you’re reminded how precious life is,” said forward Patrick Carrigan. “We hope we made him proud tonight.”

Community in Mourning

The broader rugby league community has also paid tribute, with messages of support pouring in across social media. NRL CEO Andrew Abdo called it a “devastating moment for a proud club,” and praised the response of stadium staff and emergency personnel.

Fans have begun leaving flowers and scarves at the southern entrance of Suncorp Stadium, where the man was believed to have entered just minutes before the incident.
