Grant Hall returns for Swindon Town in final game of season

AD

Grant Hall is set to be involved for Swindon Town in the final game of the season following recovery from a long injury layoff.

Swindon have struggled with defensive injuries throughout the season, with Ryan Delaney, Harrison Minturn, Miguel Freckleton, Billy Kirkman, George Cox, Joel McGregor, and Hall all having spent long spells out of the side.

The defender has only been able to play one match during 2025, managing 67 minutes at Harrogate Town having recovered from a thigh injury, only to pick up a hamstring problem during that game which has plagued him ever since.

Hall has been in training for the last month as Swindon nursed him back to full fitness, so that he did not aggravate an issue which has plagued him for the last few seasons.

Ian Holloway always had an eye on getting the 33-year-old back in action ahead of the end of the season, and he will be able to do just that when Town take on Milton Keynes Dons in their final game of the campaign this weekend.

He said: “I will definitely be doing that [giving him some minutes].

“He is fit as he did a run yesterday, we had a good, long chat a couple of months ago where he was very depressed. I am not sure that I cheered him up, but I tried to.

“It is a very difficult thing when you don’t trust your body that much anymore, and the driving is still a thing about it.

“Whatever he does in the future – I still believe he should get his [coaching] badges, stick in football, and play for as long as he can, whether that is league football or non-league football I don’t know.

“He deserves a send off, I had him before at QPR, and he is a beautiful footballer. Some centre-halves are horrible and ugly, but Grant was the nicer side of things, a Will Wright, so to speak.

“I hope that I have helped him with his mental side of things, and I am sure that he will be able to play a lot more locally than he is at the minute.

“When you are driving up to training and you are staying over, when you are older, it does catch up with you.

“I am sure he can help a lot of people with his experience in his local area around Brighton.”
