📰 Castleford Tigers Strengthen Outside Backs with New Signing

Castleford Tigers have bolstered their depth in the outside backs with the signing of experienced Super League winger on a two-year deal.

The 27-year-old joins the Fords ahead of the 2026 Super League season, becoming the latest addition in a major squad reshuffle under Director of Rugby Chris Chester and head coach Ryan Carr.

How Castleford Tigers quota situation is shaping up for 2025 - Serious About Rugby League

McIntosh, who has enjoyed productive spells with Huddersfield Giants, Hull FC, and most recently Leigh Leopards, brings proven experience and versatility across the backline. Over his career, he has registered 74 tries in 169 Super League appearances, demonstrating a consistent eye for the line and a strong work rate coming out of defence.

“Darnell adds real power and experience to our outside-back group,” said Chester. “He’s a player who can make big metres from yardage and finish opportunities when they come. His attitude and professionalism fit perfectly with what we’re building here.”

The addition of McIntosh follows the arrivals of fellow outside backs Mikaele Ravalawa and Semi Valemei, both signed from the NRL to bring pace and physicality to Castleford’s edges. The trio are expected to form a formidable unit, offering depth and competition for starting places alongside Zac Cini, Jason Qareqare, and Blake Taaffe, who can also cover full-back and wing roles.

🔁 Departures and Restructure

As part of the club’s ongoing rebuild, several outside backs have moved on, including Innes Senior, Sam Wood, and Josh Simm. Their departures opened space for the Tigers to recruit fresh faces with both domestic and international pedigree.

The changes mark a clear statement of intent from Castleford, who struggled with depth and consistency in their outside backs during recent campaigns. Strengthening this area has been a top priority as the club looks to climb the Super League ladder in 2026.

🧡 Building for the Future

With McIntosh’s arrival, Castleford now boast a backline that blends experience, power, and flair. The club’s leadership believes the new mix of homegrown talent and overseas imports will give the Fords greater attacking options and defensive stability.

“We’ve been very deliberate about the kind of players we’re bringing in,” Chester added. “We wanted strike, strength, and reliability — Darnell ticks every box.”

Castleford are expected to continue their recruitment in the coming weeks, with reports suggesting one more outside back and a middle forward could still arrive before pre-season begins.
