NFL insider Adam Schefter has been closely monitoring the ongoing standoff between Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers over the last two and a half months, providing updates to “The Pat McAfee Show” on a weekly basis.
During his appearance on Tuesday’s show, he provided a fresh update for Steelers fans.
“It does sound like the Rodgers thing, Pittsburgh thing is happening,” Schefter said. “Him and McCarthy are talking every day. Why are they talking every day if he’s not going back. It’s just not official. It’s not contractual, I was told. I don’t know where they’re at. It’s Aaron being Aaron, right? Hasn’t decided.”

“So you think Aaron’s playing for the Steelers?” McAfee asked.
“Would be my guess, yeah. Just seems that way, right?” Schefter replied.
Schefter declined to make a definitive prediction or guarantee, but he can read the tea leaves and see which way things are trending.
There have also been rumors that Rodgers wants a significantly higher salary than what he received last year after leading Pittsburgh to the playoffs, which may be holding up negotiations. Rodgers “only” made $13.65 million last season on a “prove it” deal, but now he reportedly wants closer to $30 million.

That’s a lot for a 42-year-old quarterback, but the Steelers don’t have many alternatives at this point. After months of circling each other, it would be surprising if they don’t reunite.
