The Golden State Warriors have signed former New York Knicks lottery pick Kevin Knox to a one-year deal.

Knox, 25, spent the 2023-24 season with the Detroit Pistons and has bounced around the league since the 2021-22 season. He was with the Warriors this past summer league.

Knox will have an opportunity to compete for a roster spot in Golden State during training camp.

Knox was initially drafted by the Knicks with the ninth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. The University of Kentucky product had high expectations, especially after bursting onto the scene during that year’s summer league. In four Summer League games, Knox averaged 21.3 points per game.

Knox had a strong rookie season, averaging 12.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 37 percent from the field, 34.3 percent from deep, and 71.7 percent from the free throw line. He averaged 28.8 minutes across 75 games his rookie year but hasn’t matched that minutes total or game total in a season since.

Knox averaged 6.4 points across 17.9 minutes per game in his second season in New York. Then, he averaged just 3.9 points across 11 minutes per contest in his third year.

Midway through his fourth season in New York, Knox was traded to the Atlanta Hawks after averaging just 8.5 minutes per game. Knox was traded along with a first-round pick for Cam Reddish, Solomon Hill, a 2025 second-round pick, and cash considerations.

After the 2021-22 season, Knox joined the Detroit Pistons. Then, at the 2023 trade deadline, he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in a four-team deal also involving the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors

Knox spent last season with the Pistons and with the Rip City Remix, the Trail Blazers’ G League affiliate. He then appeared in this year’s summer league with the Warriors, where he averaged 17.5 points per game.

Knox will hope to impress in training camp to earn a roster spot with Golden State. As of now, the Warriors have a pretty deep roster. Stephen Curry, Brandin Podziemski, Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, and Draymond Green will likely make up the starters, with a bench that features free agent additions De’Anthony Melton, Buddy Hield, and Kyle Anderson, as well as Gary Payton II, Trayce Jackson-Davis, Moses Moody, and Kevon Looney.

Across 306 career games, Knox has averaged 7.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting 39.2 percent from the field, 34.1 percent from deep, and 72.3 percent from the free throw line.
