On September 30, 2018, Jorge Prado fulfilled a dream and also an expectation. That day he celebrated the MX2 title on the Imola track, a milestone for a Spanish rider who, in Prado’s case, confirmed that he was the wünderkind of world MX.
However, the toll to meet that high expectation remained hidden – until now and the documentary Jorge Prado: Feet in the Dirt, which you can watch in the player above.
The film reflects a process full of sacrifices and difficult times in return for spectacular success.
In particular, it accompanies Prado throughout the last three years of his sporting career, the decisive stage in which he goes all the way from being a sensation to a reality on the track, and from adolescent to adult.
Jorge Prado: Feet in the Dirt offers the opportunity to dive deeper into the Prado family’s commitment to their son’s future and, in particular, the role played by his father, Jesus, in his unstoppable ascent to the elite level of international motocross. This dedication merited Jorge’s public tribute on Father’s Day through a heartfelt letter, which you can read below.
Beyond the obvious success achieved in 2018 that he’ll strive to continue in 2019, Prado’s had to face moments where criticism came in his direction as a result of the high expectations that he has always carried. “When we landed in the world championship, our feet were on the ground again… we were even questioned a lot and things changed drastically. After Qatar [in 2017] we realised that we weren’t ready enough to qualify for the top positions,” recalls Jesus.
When I look back now, I think, ‘You’re really insane’
“Why didn’t he have a better season on his MX2 debut? He was in school, he was just a kid, he wasn’t training properly,” says expert journalist Paul Malin. The situation changed in 2018 when Prado joined the KTM De Carli team in Italy and focused 100 percent on his sporting career with outstanding results.
“When I look back now, I think, ‘You’re really insane,'” says Prado. “Put it like this: an 11-year-old boy who still doesn’t know if he can make it to the world championship, but they all go for you and back you… Wow! Everything they’ve been through, all their effort, I’m sure it’s made them happy to see that all that was worth something.”
