Mega Parramatta Eels Trade Approved as 10 Draft Picks and a Player Involved

The Parramatta Eels have finalised one of the most complex trades in recent NRL memory, with 10 future draft selections and a player swap officially approved in a multi-club deal designed to reshape the team’s roster ahead of the 2026 season.

NRL’s Biggest Trade Shake-Up

In what insiders are calling a “groundbreaking” move, the Eels successfully negotiated a trade that will see them receive a package of future draft picks — including multiple first and second-round selections — in exchange for one of their contracted forwards and future salary cap flexibility.

The transaction, involving three separate clubs, was officially signed off by the NRL’s Integrity Unit late Sunday evening, making it one of the largest and most strategic player trade packages in league history.

A senior Eels official confirmed the details in a brief statement.

“This deal gives us the flexibility to plan long-term and strengthen our roster through both experience and youth,” the spokesperson said. “It’s about setting the foundation for the next decade.”

How the Deal Works

The trade involves:

  • 10 total draft picks spread across the 2026–2030 NRL drafts.
  • One established first-grade player moving to a rival club as part of the exchange.
  • Future salary cap relief, allowing the Eels to make significant signings in upcoming free agency windows.

League analysts say the move could become a template for future NRL negotiations, especially as the league continues to evolve its player movement and development systems.

NRL commentator Paul Gallen called it “a masterstroke” if the Eels can capitalise on their haul.

“If Parramatta uses those draft picks wisely, they could build a premiership contender within two years,” Gallen said on 100% Footy.

Strategic Rebuild Underway

The Eels’ front office has been under pressure to rebuild after an inconsistent few seasons that saw the club miss the finals despite boasting one of the NRL’s most talented rosters.

Club officials say this move reflects a shift toward long-term squad sustainability, investing in youth while maintaining a strong leadership core.

“It’s not just about next season — it’s about setting the club up for lasting success,” said Eels coach Brad Arthur. “We’re thinking bigger than short-term results.”

What Happens Next

The Eels are now expected to use their expanded draft capital to target several promising junior prospects, as well as explore trade upgrades during the next open market period.

The NRL has reportedly praised the professionalism of all clubs involved, noting that this type of multi-layered deal “demonstrates the league’s growing maturity in roster management and player movement.”

With a clearer salary cap outlook and an arsenal of future assets, Parramatta is positioning itself for a major resurgence in the coming seasons.
