In one of the biggest signings of the 2025 NRL season, rising Penrith Panthers star Casey McLean has confirmed he is joining the Parramatta Eels on a massive four-year deal worth $1.2 million per season.
The 22-year-old fullback, long touted as one of the brightest young talents in the game, will reportedly make the switch at the end of the season. The total value of the contract — nearly $5 million — makes him one of the highest-paid players in NRL history.
> “I’m joining the Eels. It’s a fresh start and I’m excited for the challenge,” McLean told reporters on Friday. “Parramatta showed belief in my potential and gave me a deal that reflects that. I can’t wait to get to work.”
McLean’s departure is a major blow to the Panthers, who were reportedly unable to match Parramatta’s lucrative offer under the salary cap. The move also signals Parramatta’s aggressive bid to rebuild their roster and return to premiership contention.
Eels head coach Trent Barrett praised the signing:

McLean has scored 11 tries and made 15 line breaks so far this season. With his arrival, the Eels are expected to restructure their backline around his attacking talents.
