Frank Lampard provides injury latest on Coventry City ‘miss’ Haji Wright

Frank Lampard has provided a fitness update on leading Coventry City goal scorer Haji Wright, insisting it is not a “terrible” injury that is keeping him sidelined at this moment in time.

However, the new head coach admits it could still take a “bit of time” for the striker to be back and available for selection for the Sky Blues. Wright is one of only two senior players out with injury, along with goalkeeper Ben Wilson who is no nearer to being back in training.

Coventry City's Haji Wright arrives at Loftus Road

Wright went over on his right ankle in the latter stages of the 2-2 draw at Sunderland earlier last month, resulting in the striker being stretchered off the field. The USA star missed going off on duty with his country in his first two weeks out during the international break and has since sat out three domestic games for his club, including Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Cardiff – Lampard’s first match in charge.

Asked how Wright is progressing with his rehabilitation, the new boss told CoventryLive: “Well, we’re expecting a bit of time. It’s an ankle issue.

“I have seen the injury when it happened, watched it back so it’s a difficult one to give a time line for but it’s not a terrible injury and we will just have to make sure he’s right. But he’s obviously a miss and I am aware of his quality, too.”

All other outfield players who have been struggling lately are back in full training, with Jamie Allen and Jake Bidwell in the bench again at the weekend. Wilson, however, is still working in the gym on his knee ligament strain and is yet to make it back out onto the grass.
