The Philadelphia Eagles fell short in their bid to repeat as Super Bowl champions and will now turn the page to the 2026 offseason, when we will certainly see some wheeling and dealing from general manager Howie Roseman.
One player who could draw interest from teams around the NFL is quarterback Tanner McKee, who has garnered a bit of hype over his two seasons in the league after some solid performances in place of Jalen Hurts.
Not only does ESPN’s Ben Solak believe the Eagles will trade McKee, he also predicts the former sixth-round pick will land in Miami.
“The quarterback factory spits out another trade, as the Eagles will deal QB2 Tanner McKee to the Dolphins in exchange for a middle-round pick,” Solak said. “Somehow, this deal eventually gets folded into another team-saving trade just before November’s trade deadline.”
We could definitely see this trade happening.
The Dolphins have a giant question mark at quarterback after the team benched Tua Tagovailoa, which essentially showed they are done with him.
Going into the 2026 offseason, Tagovailoa and 2025 seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers are the only notable quarterbacks under contract, and there’s a chance the Dolphins cut ties with the former, even though it would cost a ton in dead money.
If Tua stays, a trade for McKee becomes less likely, but we wouldn’t completely rule it out. If Tua is gone, bringing in the Eagles quarterback is more likely, as Miami would need to add competition for Ewers, who the jury is still out on.
McKee is also on a cheap $4 million rookie contract, which is ideal for cap-strapped Dolphins.
Of course, who the Dolphins hire as their head coach will be a significant factor in what Miami does at quarterback, so keep that in mind.
The Dolphins may also look to add their next quarterback in the 2026 NFL draft. The only way that doesn’t happen is if Miami makes a significant addition at the quarterback position, something we don’t envision happening.
