The Brisbane Broncos’ leadership team played a pivotal role in the decision to drop winger Josiah Karapani from this week’s starting lineup, following an off-field incident in Fortitude Valley.
Karapani, 24, was involved in an altercation with police at 3:30am on Saturday morning, shortly after the Broncos’ Friday night win.
The incident has been referred to the NRL Integrity Unit for review.
It was confirmed on Tuesday that Karapani would be replaced in the starting side by Jesse Arthurs, and with the upcoming Hostplus Cup bye weekend, he will not feature in any matches this weekend.

Broncos captain Adam Reynolds explained that the leadership group collectively decided on the course of action before presenting it to coach Michael Maguire.
“We were all across it, lengthy discussions on Monday morning,” Reynolds said at a press conference.
“Obviously a bit disappointed, fell below team standards. He’s really apologetic, Josiah knows he made an error. It’s unfortunate for him. Disappointed from a player point of view, our team culture comes first and that was the decision.
“It’s not ideal, but it’s happened now … he’s fully aware of the mistakes he’s made, he is really apologetic and I’m sure he won’t make that mistake again.”
Fellow leader Ben Hunt also spoke on the decision, emphasising the importance of accountability while supporting Karapani’s return.
“He knows he made a mistake, we have spoken to him about that and he understands and takes responsibility for it,” Hunt said.
“As a club and a leadership group we thought it was best he didn’t play this week and serves a bit of a punishment. I back him, he’s a good kid.
“He was very apologetic and knows he made a mistake. He came into training this week and worked as hard as he could, so he will be back in there at some stage.”
The Broncos will face the Gold Coast Titans on Saturday.
