Sydney Roosters Star Granted Leave to Deal With Personal Issues

The Sydney Roosters have confirmed that one of their star players has been granted leave from the club to deal with personal matters, placing his short-term availability in doubt.

In a brief statement, the Roosters said the decision was made to allow the player time and space away from football, with the club emphasising that his wellbeing remains the top priority.

Club Shows Support

The Roosters moved quickly to support the player, stressing that there is no set timeline for his return.

“The club is fully supportive and will continue to provide whatever assistance is required during this period,” a club spokesperson said.

Officials declined to provide further details, respecting the player’s privacy and asking fans and media to do the same.

Impact on the Squad

While the personal leave creates some uncertainty around team selection, the Roosters are confident in their squad depth. Coaching staff are expected to adjust rotations as needed, with younger players potentially stepping into larger roles in the short term.

The absence of a senior figure, however, will be felt — particularly given the player’s influence both on and off the field.

Welfare Comes First

The situation highlights the increasing focus across the NRL on player welfare and mental health, with clubs more willing than ever to prioritise people over performance.

Teammates have reportedly rallied around the player, reinforcing the strong internal culture the Roosters are known for.

What Happens Next?

There is currently no indication whether the issue will affect the player long-term. Any return to training or match duties will be guided by medical and personal considerations rather than timelines.

For now, the Roosters — and their supporters — will hope the player receives the support he needs and returns when ready.
