Wisconsin football landed a commitment from West Virginia transfer defensive lineman Hammond Russell last Thursday.
Russell entered the transfer portal earlier this month after five years with the Mountaineers. He originally joined the program as a three-star recruit in the class of 2021. The defensive lineman appeared in just two games during his first two years in Morgantown, West Virginia.
He then emerged as a primary depth contributor over the next three seasons, totaling 40 tackles, 6 1/2 for loss, 5 1/2 sacks and one forced fumble.

The Dublin, Ohio, native joins the Badgers for a final year of eligibility. 247Sports currently ranks him as a three-star transfer prospect, and the No. 352 overall player and No. 27 defensive lineman in the portal.
Russell is part of a Wisconsin transfer class that is now up to 24 commitments. He, Arkansas edge rusher Justus Boone, Tennessee edge rusher Jayden Loftin, Illinois State defensive tackle Jake Anderson and Buffalo defensive tackle Junior Poyser are the group’s reinforcements along the defensive front.
