Russell Wilson made headlines this week after he disclosed an injury he hadn’t at the time. The New York Giants quarterback alleged that he didn’t close his hamstring tear prior to the Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys. This has opened the Giants to exposure and could very well trigger an NFL investigation.
In his interview, Wilson disclosed that it was a Grade 2 hamstring tear and he chose not to tell the team. That means the former Super Bowl winner played through an injury against the Cowboys and then next week against the Kansas City Chiefs before being benched for rookie Jaxson Dart.

The veteran quarterback, who has a net worth of $185 million (via Celebrity Net Worth) has come under heavy fire following his recent revelation. American broadcaster Joe Budden went ahead and called Wilson a “rat” for throwing the Giants under the bus.
“You have got to be kidding, you rat. B**tard,” Budden said on his show. “That is the last game. He probably won’t be back with the Giants.”
According to Budden, Wilson chose to be selfish. Budden said Wilson pinned the blame for his shortcomings to the injury so that he can again get signed next season.
Not the @Giants fault!
they didn’t know bc I didn’t want to tell anyone bc of the circumstances. I just had to play through it to try and go ball that day! Thought we were going to Win that wild crazy game! https://t.co/NGyhZGtlni— Russell Wilson (@DangeRussWilson) January 5, 2026
“Right, so he’s in the Giants locker room, saying, ‘I was f*cked up since this game, this week, way back then. I didn’t tell anybody. I couldn’t tell anybody. That’s why my performance this year has looked like that,’” Budden added. “So now another team can have the whole… and now the Giants are under investigation now. Because why are you not disclosing this? Yeah, why the f*ck would he do that? That is nasty.”
Russell Wilson Defends Giants Against Wrongdoing
In the wake of his revelation, the Giants could face penalties if they are found guilty of hiding an injury. However, before an NFL investigation could be triggered, Russell Wilson came forward to reiterate that the Giants were not at fault.

Wilson has also said that he wishes to return for another season, which would be his 15th in the NFL. In 2025, he appeared in six games, including three starts, where he completed 69-of-119 passes for 831 yards with three touchdowns against three interceptions.
